About

We await you to the 13th edition of the Haferland Week festival, the largest event in Romania dedicated to promoting the culture and traditions of the Transylvanian Saxon community. The festival will take place from July 31 to August 3, in ten localities of the region historically known as Haferland (The Land of Oats): Archita, Saschiz, Homorod, Rupea, Criț, Roadeș, Meșendorf, Cloașterf, Bunești, and Viscri.
The theme chosen for this edition is “Neighboring Traditions.”

This year, the festival is expected to welcome around 10,000 visitors from Romania as well as countries such as Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The organizers have prepared a wide range of special events for guests of all ages, so that for the four days of the festival, everyone can feel like part of the Saxon community—through visits to fortified churches and traditional Saxon households, concerts and a ball with traditional Saxon music, organ concerts, jazz performances, folk dance shows, film screenings, workshops for crafts and traditional costumes, activities for children and adults, guided tours, organic product tastings, and much more.
All festival events are free to attend.

About Haferland Week

The Haferland Week festival was launched in 2012 by the M&V Schmidt Foundation, together with the Tabaluga Foundation // Peter Maffay Stiftung, an organization founded by German musician of Romanian origin Peter Maffay.
The main goal of the event is to promote the culture and traditions of the Transylvanian Saxons, as well as to boost tourism in the Haferland region.

This project is funded by the Ministry of Culture and co-funded by the Brașov County Council, whom we thank as some of the festival’s main supporters.
