After 4 years of work within the Carpathian Large Carnivore Project at its completion in 2003 we have decided to share with you the amazing experience of tracking and observing wildlife in its natural habitat and help you understand the importance of its conservation. This way we can continue our work to protect large carnivores and their natural habitats through ecotourism. What do we have to offer? Since 2008 we are able to give you a fair chance at seeing Eurasian lynx and brown bears in the wild, as we started working with wildlife researchers from Brasov area. These activities do not harm the animals and do not put you at risk, as the researchers know the best way to approach the animals and the watching is done at a safe distance. We also work with experts in birds, both in the Transylvanian Carpathians and the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.

Whether you are interested in the wildlife of Romania, myths and legends related to it, traditional Transylvanian lifestyle, there’s a very simple way to get a first-hand experience: from people that grew up with all that. You can choose one of our tours, day-walks or activities focused on: Bear, wolf tracking and watching The Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania (Romania) are home to impressive numbers of wolves, bears, lynx and other wildlife. Even more impressive, this is in close coexistence with traditional farming activities-something that didn’t really happen in any other parts of Europe. Seeing wild animals in their natural environment is always a challenge ; finding tracks or other signs of them is the very first step to understand the world they live in and their life. We will go looking for these wild animals away from any tourist areas, following shepherds or foresters’ trails, deep into the forest. We can arrange bear-watching from one of the hides owned by Forestry Commission; about 80 % chances to see bears as well as other wildlife (wild boar, Lesser spotted Eagle, Ural Owl); we had sightings of wolves and lynx as well, although they’re rather exceptional. Far from the urban agglomeration, in the complete silence of the forest, tourists have the chance to listen to nature, the noises of wild animals and even to safely follow the dangerous ones from specially arranged shelters. The forests of Piatra Craiului are the ideal habitat of large carnivores, bears, wolves, lynx, deer and deer, and the rocky areas of the black goat. The rich ornithofauna, represented by 111 species identified in the area of ​​the Piatra Craiului National Park, is an ideal resource for bird watching lovers. Asociația Ecoturistică Zărnești Piatra Craiului AEZPC urmărește dezvoltarea ecoturismului în Zărnești, pentru bunăstarea generației prezente, si păstrarea resurselor pentru generațiile viitoare. In anul 2018, asociatia a preluat evenimentul “Folk de Zarnesti”, eveniment ce se afla la a IV-a editie, si l-a transformat intr-un adevarat succes pe plan local avand peste 4000 de vizitatori unici in cele doua zile, cu 70% fata de editia precedenta. Adunand o echipa de profesionisti si cu ajutorul comunitatii, isi propune sa transforme FOLK ROCK FEST PIATRA CRAIULUI intr-un brand de renume.

 The natural rock fortress of Pietra Craiului is unique among the mountains in our country. The specific landscape is characterized by a lonely ridge, which reaches a length of approximately 25 km and heights of over 2,000 meters. La Om peak (or Piscul Baciului) is the highest and measures 2,238 m. If we leisurely study the particularities of the massif, we will discover a great variety of relief shapes and sizes: rock corners, needles, pyramids, edges, towers, belts and chimneys. The large number of valleys, hollows, natural arches and alpine gaps complete the visual spectacle, along with particularly spectacular steeps. 1,170 plant species live here, almost 30% of the plants found in our country, of which 181 are protected. Among these species we mention only the most well-known ones: the carnation of Pietrei Craiului, the yew, the angelica, the blood of the strong, the yellow poppy, the linaria, the cornflower, the wild gladiolus, the bulbul and the mountain peony. Piatra Craiului harbors an impressive number of species of mountain orchids, 41 of the 58 existing in Romania. The climatic and geological conditions, the geomorphology and the structure of the flora and vegetation of Piatra Craiului have determined the preservation of a special diversity in the group of mammals. Of the approximately 100 species of mammals in the fauna of the entire country, over 40% live in Piatra Craiului. The sccess in the Piatra Craiului National Park is based on the visitor's ticket. Carpathian MTB Epic delivers 4 days of pure mountain biking with over 173 kilometres of pedalling and 8.050 meters of climbing in the heart of one of the last genuinely wild regions in Europe – the Carpathian mountains in Romania. Participation is complemented by the all-inclusive experience, which covers everything from accommodations in the Olympic level Race Village to nutrition & meal plans, complete race services on site and on course and top it all with a high quality relaxation & entertainment programme.
